Sunday Best is a studio on the road. I become a travelling Circus, setting up at people’s homes, in their courtyards, barns or churches. The idea of Sunday best is to recreate the studio photography of a by-gone era where visiting the photographer was to be aspirational, to be at one’s best. In a time where all photography is causal and the casual taking of photos is a constant, I wanted to remind myself and my subjects of the magic photography can hold. While I travel around and seek out my sitters wherever I go, they all enter my studio on the same premise. Whatever their walk of life, here everybody is the same. All images shot on 5x4 black and white negative, printed on Baryta paper then hand painted at Mahatta Photography, Dehli.
